Yunnan to Improve International Transportation Corridor

Southwest China's Yunnan province has increased its efforts to improve transportation networks between South and Southwest Asian countries. Yunnan's proximity to Southeast Asia means that a five hour flight can reach any country there.

Yunnan province borders Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar. Its agricultural products are popular among foreigners in border countries and better transportation networks will help promote the region’s imports and exports of agricultural products.

The Belt and Road Initiative mentioned that the Yunnan should improve its transportation networks with neighboring countries and make full use of its geographical advantage. The province is currently aiming to build an all-round transportation network linking Yunnan and neighboring countries with major road, railway, and aviation arteries.

Yunnan currently has four international railways linking the province with Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar. The Kunming - Bangkok Road connects Kunming, the provincial capital of Yunnan, with Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. The pan-Asia Railway, when complete, will allow people in Yunnan to take the train to Singapore without having to transfer.

The aviation industry is also experiencing a boom in Yunnan. The Kunming Changshui International Airport opened numerous airlines to South and Southeast Asia. The two-hour flight from Kunming can take passengers to Southeast Asian cities including Bangkok, Vientiane, Mandalay and Chiengmai. Yunnan seeks to increase the number of flights to South and Southeast Asian countries through cooperation with local airlines.
