Kunming Ethnic Village Prepares Shows for May Day Holidays

Kunming’s Ethnic Village plans to put on an Ethnic Costumes Festival from May 1 to 3. The festival will invite visitors to dress in a variety of ethnic costumes to display the depth and breadth of Chinese ethnic culture.

During the May Day holidays, girls and boys of ethnic groups will welcome visitors at the village's east gate with wines and songs. The Ethnic Village will put on ethnic costume shows at 11:30 to 12:00 and 16:00 to 16:30 each day. Visitors can put on costumes to get a personal experience of ethnic cultures and have the chance to get free tickets to the Ethnic Village.

There will also be various activities featuring ethnic characteristics. Hani village will hold fish catching contests at its ecological valley. The village's band will play ethnic instruments on the stage in front of Deang village.

Visitors can also try out folk games such as walking on stilts and kicking shuttlecocks. Ethnic dances and plays will also be put on during the festival, including a drum performance at Yi village and Beautiful Cloud, a play by the Mosuo ethnic group.

The village will also prepare special Yunnan food for visitors, such as bean jelly of the Bai ethnic group, buttered tea of the Tibetan ethnic group and Sulima wine of the Pumi ethnic group.
