French Perfume to be "Scent" to Shilin for Aromatic Museum

Exotic fragrances and enchanting aromas are set to waft their way to Shilin county in Yunnan province, after a contract between Kunming city and the city of Grasse in France was signed on March 28, signaling the construction of the Asian Perfume Museum.

Chen Lianyuan, Party chief of Kunming city; Wang Xiliang, mayor of Kunming and Jérôme Viaud, mayor of Grasse attended the signing ceremony.

The museum in Shilin is expected to be an international platform for exhibitors and visitors to sniff out perfume culture. Initially, the Grasse Perfume Museum will provide more than 100 precious perfume collections to the museum in Shilin

Global perfume brands such as Dior, Hermes and YSL will exhibit products at the museum and visitors will be able to get a better sense of how their favorite perfume is made.

According to the contract, French enterprises will also build production and R&D bases in Kunming city and cultivate Chinese talents.

Kunming is known as the "spring city" and the "city of flowers" because of its diverse flora and mild temperatures, and Grasse is famous for being the France's "city of perfume". Kunming would be happy to help develop French perfume in China, Chen Lianyuan said.

Jérôme Viaud applauded the link-up between Grasse and Kunming to work together in the fragrance industry. He said the under-construction China-France Fragrance Industrial Park and the Perfume and Spice Museum to be built in Shilin will be platforms from which French enterprises can grow in China and drive Grasse-Kunming cooperation.
