Kunming Students Celebrate Indian culture with Holi Celebrations

Yunnan Nationalities University threw on a party to celebrate the Indian Festival of Holi at its Lianhua campus in Kunming on March 27.

University students celebrated the traditional Indian festival by throwing colored powders and water on each other to symbolize the emotions and forces of life.

A variety of nationalities were represented by students at the event, including those from India and China.

Characteristic Indian yoga demonstrations and dances from Chinese ethnic groups were performed on the day to display the traditional cultures of each country.

"[India and China] both have a long history and various cultures and there are many aspects that they should increase communications in," said Xin Renjie, an Indian student who is working on his doctor degree in China. He also pointed out that the festive celebration was designed to help students from China and India to gain a greater understanding of each other’s cultures.

Special dishes were plated up to participants and Indian curry dishes and desserts were especially popular.
